Year 4 Tuition Courses
Our Year 4 courses introduce the key skills children need for 11 Plus success. We focus on building confidence, core knowledge and early reasoning techniques in a friendly, supportive environment. Starting tuition in Year 4 gives your child more time to develop core skills at a comfortable pace, reducing pressure and setting them up with excellent learning habits for Year 5 and beyond.
Teachitright has been teaching children in Year 4 for nearly 20 years, and has supported hundreds of pupils on their journeys through Year 5 tuition and to the 11 Plus. We have excellent success rates, and great testimonials from our parents. We are Ofsted registered and all our tutors are DBS checked, highly qualified and experienced teachers.

Our grammar school courses for Year 4 pupils
Teachitright’s Year 4 tuition courses are offered at safe and secure centres across Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Surrey and West London, and run over the year in blocks of six weeks. Children can join our courses at any time throughout the year.
Our Year 4 course is designed to be an introduction to all of the core skills required for the GL Assessment, CEM Select and Future Stories Community Enterprise (FSCE) tests. Children come out of our Year 4 courses with confidence, and baseline skills, knowledge and learning habits that will give them the best possible grounding for ongoing development in Year 5.
Most of our Year 4 children go on to our Year 5 courses, which tailor tuition to the exams they will be taking in Year 6 for grammar school entry.

How is our Year 4 course structured?
Our Year 4 courses are delivered in blocks of six weeks, from September to July each year. The first four weeks of each block focus on learning techniques, skills and strategies, with week five consisting of a baseline assessment. In week six of each block, pupils and parents receive a report and feedback either in small group or one-to-one sessions. This gives you regular, transparent information about your child’s progress and areas they might be finding challenging and need extra focus.
Our Year 4 pupils are also given a manageable 90 minutes of homework to complete each week, ensuring that learning and development continues between lessons and progress is made week to week. We run weekly homework clubs and online quizzes, as well as monthly books clubs, that our pupils can opt to attend. We also offer add-on online masterclasses throughout the academic year that focus tightly on specific KS2 skills.
Parents are supported through regular meetings with our tutors, giving you opportunities to ask questions and discuss your child’s progress. We also run group sessions for parents, looking at areas of the 11 Plus such as Non-Verbal Reasoning, giving you the knowledge to be able to support your child’s development at home.

Year 4 is a key moment for pupils in their 11 Plus journeys – it is a crucial time to start understanding what grammar school entrance tests will involve, how much preparation is needed, and what skills and knowledge they will be required to demonstrate in the tests. With skills such as Non-Verbal Reasoning not taught as part of the curriculum, tuition at Year 4 can give children more time to develop their understanding of these areas, as well as their problem-solving skills, gradually and without too much pressure.
