Passionate and engaging tuition, tailored to the energy in the room at every lesson
What Tolu, a tutor at our centre in Reading, enjoys most about tutoring at Teachitright is the blend of structure and care that runs through everything we do. With well-organised processes and thoughtfully designed resources, she’s able to focus fully on what really matters – the children. She loves seeing their confidence grow, sharing in their ‘lightbulb moments’, and building a strong rapport with both pupils and parents. For her, the interaction with families is one of the most rewarding parts of the role.
”Every Teachitright process is organised with purpose, making it easier to focus on what really matters, the children. I love seeing their confidence grow, sharing in their 'lightbulb moments', and building a rapport with both them and their parents.
Tolu describes her teaching style as passionate and engaging, tailoring each lesson to the energy in the room so that no two classes are ever the same. She holds two degrees in English Language along with a professional teaching qualification, and brings over 12 years of experience across several countries. Her diverse teaching career has given her a real strength in creating inclusive learning environments, and she has also completed specialist training on neurodiversity and inclusive education.
Since joining Teachitright in April 2021, Tolu has become a valued part of the Reading centre team. She is especially passionate about encouraging children to reflect on their mistakes when preparing for the 11+, as she believes that’s where the deepest learning happens. To help pupils develop strong vocabulary, she ensures words keep reappearing in later readings, writing prompts and games so they become part of active vocabulary, not something quickly forgotten.
When it comes to favourite children’s books, Tolu’s top choice is A Different Kind of Normal by Abigail Balfe. She admires how it tackles autism, growing up and feeling different with honesty, warmth and humour, while the doodles and notes make it wonderfully relatable for young readers.
Outside of teaching, Tolu enjoys exploring London in search of the very best frozen yoghurt spots – a fun challenge that matches her lively, engaging approach in the classroom.
”Check your mistakes. Don’t just mark answers, spend time figuring out why you got it wrong. This is where the real learning happens.
