A dedication to helping young learners succeed

With almost 25 years of teaching experience, Steve brings a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm to the Teachitright team. Having started out in a large comprehensive school in north London, later leading a department, and then spending over a decade teaching in a private school, his career has been defined by a dedication to helping young learners succeed. Now teaching at a primary school in Buckinghamshire, Steve continues to inspire pupils with his inclusive approach and engaging lessons.

Tutoring is very different from working in a school. I especially enjoy the challenge of teaching Non-Verbal Reasoning; when a child gets it, that's magic.

For Steve, one of the highlights of working with Teachitright is the chance to teach Non-Verbal Reasoning. He loves the moment when a child grasps a tricky concept – that ‘lightbulb moment’ never gets old. His teaching style is inclusive and creative, often using videos and varied approaches to connect with different types of learners.

Outside of the classroom, he’s a passionate reader with a particular fondness for Sherlock Holmes. When it comes to 11+ preparation, his advice is simple but powerful: read widely and always ask ‘why?’.

Steve believes that Teachitright stands out for striking the perfect balance between too much and too little homework, ensuring children feel supported without being overwhelmed. And for families looking to get to know Steve on a more personal level, here’s a fun fact: at the start of his teaching career, he once did a charity bungee jump. It was one of the scariest, yet most exhilarating experiences of his life – though he admits, he hasn’t been back for a second jump!

Read! And always ask 'why?'.
