A strong understanding of what young learners need to thrive
Hannah teaches at our Gerrards Cross centre and brings a wealth of experience from both the private and state school sectors. Having supported pupils with Common Entrance exam preparation as well as Year 6 children moving on to secondary school, she has a strong understanding of what young learners need in order to thrive. Since joining Teachitright just over a year ago, Hannah has loved every session and finds it particularly rewarding to see children enjoying themselves as they make progress.
”What makes Teachitright really special is the close collaboration with parents, combined with a carefully planned curriculum. As tutors, we guide the learning and are able to provide tasks that can be shared at home, giving parents insight into their child’s progress.
Hannah describes her teaching style as positive and encouraging, always looking to highlight what pupils have done well as well as where they can improve. She also places great importance on working closely with parents, whether that’s in a quick catch-up after lessons, through written reports, or during more detailed parents’ evenings. She believes this close partnership is vital for a child’s success.
A passionate reader, Hannah’s favourite children’s book is Northern Lights, which first captivated her at age nine and remains a favourite today. She often reminds children preparing for the 11+ to read widely and often and to practise skills little and often rather than in long, infrequent study sessions. In her own lessons, she makes vocabulary memorable and fun by encouraging children to use new words in sentences – sometimes the sillier the better!
Outside of tutoring, Hannah has a lifelong love of dance. Ballet has always been her favourite, and she still enjoys taking classes as an adult for both the challenge and the joy it brings.
”I’m sure everyone who teaches children will recommend them to read widely and often, and this advice is well-founded. Encouraging children to engage with a variety of high-quality texts strengthens vocabulary, comprehension, and confidence.
